This is the annual release from our home vineyard which we call Cumulus. Because it IS literally our home, the site where our main winery is, where one of our estate vineyards is, and where we also live, there is an extra dose of emotion involved when these lovely gems are crafted. And as is typical, there are two different beauties to try. These wines are certainly NOT Less than...say...Sine Qua Non or The Third Twin. They are just different expressions from a different site and we want to show what can happen here when the same huge effort is put forth...all year long and with every detail.

Let me tell you about the first one and that is...

I almost get tears in my eyes as I'm writing this. The 15th version of a cuvée from our own home!!! It once was nothing but a dream and now we have reached that far into it. What a treat, and things are just getting better and better. Working diligently, without compromising, does payoff. This beauty alone certifies it. Let me give you some details: firstly, the cuvée is always the outcome of a lot of tasting. It is an absolutely delightful composition of 40% grenache, 34% syrah, 22% petite sirah and 4% of the rather acidic white variety called petite manseng. All of the fruit was grown here in Oak View at the Cumulus vineyard. A whopping 93% of that fruit was destemmed, but 7% was fermented with their perfectly ripe stems. That whole deal was kept in barrels for +/- 30 months and 53% of the oak we used was brand new. The rest between only one and four years old.

No critic/journalist has tasted it yet, although that'll surely change pretty soon. Lucky for them and hopefully us too.

I am not going to obnoxiously wax poetic with elaborate and far out descriptions of this delight, but of course E and I did taste it over two nights and it was so darn good that all I wrote down was this little outburst:

Fantastic, gorgeous, dark, dark color. Pure, luxurious petrol of the best kind in every way. I love it!! Just a great, GREAT wine. What else can one say?
