2007 Vintage Report
Good sized crops ripened to perfection in almost every case, so 2007 is one of those rare vintages of good quantity and high quality.
After a wet winter, spring was settled, warm and dry. November was also dry and one of the warmest on record, leading to a rapid flowering and excellent fruit set giving full bunches. December was cooler than average but, again, without much rain, so that more arid blocks required irrigation by late in the month. This led to mild water stress on the vines at the perfect time, resulting in smaller berries and good tannin and colour.
The rest of the summer and early autumn was almost rainless and very warm and settled, although there were fewer very hot days than normal. There was no pressure to pick because of adverse weather, so vintage proceeded in a very orderly fashion as each block and variety reached optimum ripeness.
The driest season of the last decade, 2007 shows all the signs of producing wine of notable concentration. Because the vintage was not overly hot, the white wines show attractive ripe fruit flavours and full palates.
The reds benefited from the extra hang time and show remarkable colour, good firm ripe tannins and lovely ripe, fruity aromas. This is an exceptional vintage and the fourth high quality vintage in a row.
