The early, moderate growing season of 2007 combined with Bennett Valley's cool climate resulted in some truly spectacular fruit. Picked October 11th, the fruit was divided into four tanks. Some tanks were inoculated; other tanks were allowed to ferment with whatever ambient yeasts were present. Whole cluster inclusion (for aroma and structure) ranged from 22% to 50%. Twenty percent new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered. And like our 2007 Sonoma County Zinfandel, there's a twist. Yep! Half this wine was bottled in screw cap (with a tin liner as opposed to the Saranex liner on the zinfandel) and half in cork. As before, the wine will be sold in sets of two, one of each type of closure.
Mmm, Mmm, Mmm! Very dark ruby-purple. Gorgeous aromas of mulberry, black olive, licorice, incense, and violets soar from the glass. The nose alone is a total turn-on! The wine enters oh-so smoothly with silky tannins lending support and focus to the kaleidoscope of exotic flavors. Similar to the delicious 2005 but considerably better. In fact, quite possibly my favorite syrah from Bennett Valley to date. Enjoy from release through 2020.
