A bit behind the legends of the vintage, more intensity and richness would seal the deal. That being said, this is still a fabulous experience. The nose with its truffles, smoke, mint, dried flowers, cherries, red plums, and spice is a treat. The medium-bodied palate is soft, silky, and finesse in style, with a nice sweetness and earthy quality to the fruits on the palate and in the finish. There is no reason to age this any longer as it is not going to get better from here. Drink from 2024-2030.

Garnet with purple accents in the color. The wine offers blackberries, black cherries, violets, chocolate, saffron, smoke, licorice, and orange rind nuances in the perfume. The palate is even more expressive. Regardless of what you have heard or expect, this is a gentle Cheval Blanc. The wine starts off slowly, and builds on the palate in intensity, slowly, but steadily. The wine manages to be as refined as it is concentrated, remaining perfectly balanced. The experience is seamless. The purity in the fruit is striking. The finish sees the 60 second mark and without a care in the world, keeps on going leaving you with layers of silky, sexy, sensuous fruits that linger long after the wine has left the glass. The wine is made from 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. 13.9% ABV, 3.8 pH. The harvest took place August 29 - September 6 for the Merlot. The Cabernet Franc September 12 - September 20. Yields were only 27 hectoliters per hectare. Please note that no second wine was produced in 2022. Make no mistake, this is one of the great vintages of Cheval Blanc, and that is really saying something. Drink from 2027-2065. 98-100 Pts.

Im Gaumen die pure Eleganz, druckvoll, vollmundig, und mit seidenweichen Tanninen ausgestattet, der Wein hat eine perfekte Harmonie, zeigt Rasse, Frische und gleichzeitig Opulenz, was für eine Präzision, was für eine Länge, hier ist alles an seinem Platz. There is a uniqueness of texture, that is pure Cheval. The perfume was equally alluring with all of its dried flower, cigar wrapper. spice and red fruits. Deep dark ruby in colour with an opaque core, purple reflections, and subtle brightening on the rim. On the nose, aromas of delicate smoky spices, dark cherry, a hint of ripe plum, a touch of nougat, and some candied orange zest in the background. The elegant palate is firm and juicy with ripe tannins, hints of cherry and clove, and a touch of nougat on the saline mineral finish which has verve and length. Already very harmonious, this wine has enormous ageing potential, designed to last decades.

Medium to deep ruby red color is not opaque. There are lovely toasty oak aromas over red-fruit on the nose. The palate has a superb freshness. Pure, juicy, fresh, cranberry fruit adorns the palate. The wine is medium to full-bodied with a very fine, silky, tannic structure that manages to have good grip. There is a lovely long, fine, elegant finish with fine, well-integrated cedary oak notes. Mediun to deep ruby-red in color. Dark fruit aromas on the nose are initially quite restrained, but open to reveal ripe, licorice-like concentration. Intense ripe black-fruit on the palate is beautifully balanced by good acidity. Notes of cedar & licorice open on the mid-palate. Alcohol is in balance and the wine finishes with a good girm tannic structure providing good grip - the structure gives the finish good length. 11/98 DCAMW

Deep maroon/ruby-red in color, with dark pigmentation but the wine is not opaque. The dark fruit on the nose is rich, ripe & seems alcoholic. On the palate dark cherry & cassis fruit gives way to a lovely smooth, fine structure with a chocolatey texture. Alcohol is in balance but currently the finish is quite closed, showing hints of cassis. 11/99 DCAMW

Deep, dark, ruby-red color is not quite opaque. The aromas are an intense combination of cedar, chocolate, coffee & tobacco-leaf, leading to notes of cocoa. The dark-fruit on the palate is tightly structured & but shows watery touches. The wine is astringent at present, but is not over-extracted. Acidity is lively, alcohol is balanced & the fruit is closed, leaving the finish short, however there is clearly intense fruit that is will open with time. 11/01 DCAMW

Medium to deep, ruby-red color with dark pigmentation. The aromas are quite powerful with black-fruit & impressive coffee, vanilla, graphite, cedar & mocha complexity. Currently the dark-fruit on the palate is quite closed with plenty of structure. Finely crafted tannins on the mid-palate combine with balanced alcohol & reasonable acidity. At present the finish is a little drying, with lead-pencil notes, but lasts well. A fine, but currently quite austere example of Cheval Blanc. 11/03 DCAMW

Very good deep color, is virtually opaque. The nose combines attractive, ripe dark-fruit aromas with clean new oak notes. On the palate lovely dark-berry fruit, supported by fresh acidity. The wine is of mid-weight & is very elegant with fine smooth tannins & toasty oak touches. Balanced alcohol gives fair length to the finish. Not highly concentrated but balanced, open & approachable now. 11/08 DCAMW

Medium to medium-deep. ruby-red. The nose displays ripe red-plum aromas, graphite touches, cedar & notes of high-toned over-maturity. Plum and dark berry fruit on the palate are supported by good acidity. The mid palate is fine & firm with a lean, slightly leafy profile typical of Canernet Franc. Alcohol & acid are both well in balance & the finish lasts well. 11/10 DCAMW
