97-99 Barrel sample. The qualities of the 2022 vintage have been good to Cos d'Estournel. Freshness and black fruits have lightened the tannins into a fine and juicy wine. The result is impressive—a superb, generous and structured wine that is one of the best from the estate for many years.

Opaque in color, the wine pops from the glass with black fruits, cloves, cinnamon, blackberries, blueberries, purple flowers, almonds, and smoke. The wine coats, bathes, and covers your palate with seemingly endless layers of opulent, black fruits. The cashmere tannins create the impression of velvet as the wine lingers for 60 seconds or more with its waves of black, blue. and red fruits, dark cocoa, licorice, and Asian spice. There is a seamlessness to the finish, as well as lift, and purity. This is a very hedonistic, yet elegant wine. 2022 clearly competes with the best of vintages of Cos ever produced. The wine was made from blending 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. 14.04% ABV, 3.79 pH. The yields were 33 hectoliters per hectare. The harvest took place September 7 to September 23. The Grand Vin was produced from 66% of the harvest. The wine is going to approachable early in its life, yet it has the ability to age for decades. Drink from 2028-2060. 98-100 Pts.

Anfangs noch verhalten wird dieser Wein mit etwas Luft immer intensiver, die schwarze Johannisbeere tanzt hier mit exotisch-würigen Aromen, dazu kommen Veilchenaromen und etwas weisser Pfeffer. Im Gaumen mit Druck und viel Präzision, was für eine Eleganz, da ist keinerlei Wärme oder Schwerfälligkeit zu spüren, ja, der Wein hat Kraft, doch er scheint über der Zunge zu schweben, hochelegant, das Holz kaum wahrnehmbar, ausgezeichnete Harmonie und beeindruckende Länge im Abgang. La bouche est fruitée, harmonieuse, veloutée et offre de la jutosité, de la fraîcheur, de la minéralité, une jolie définition, tout en élégance, de l’harmonie, de la richesse en justesse, de la puissance, de la profondeur et un côté aérien malgré la puissance et la densité. The tightly woven palate is powerful, minerally, and very long, underpinned by firm, ripe tannins and notes of nougat and crystallised violets. Has the potential for further ageing, with decades ahead of it.

Popped and poured for Father’s Day, the wine is elegant, opulent, silky and fresh on the palate. The wine offers a strong cigar box and tobacco nose, along with distinctive mint and green peppery tones, with a touch of 5 spice, smoke, roasted cassis, cedar and pepper. This is fully mature. There is no reason to decant, except for sediment, or to hold any longer. It’s a gorgeous, old school expression of Cos d’Estournel this hits all the right notes.

Earthy, spicy, black raspberries, blackberries, flowers, and black currants create the nose and the core of its medium/full-bodied palate. Soft, silky, fresh and polished, there is a nice sweetness and refined edge to the fruit on the palate, finishing with layers of vibrant, peppery, tea-stained, black currants with a gentle hint of herbs on the backend. The wine was made from blending 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc,13% alcohol, pH of 3.7. The yields were 35 hectoliters per hectare. The harvest took place September 23 to October 7. The Grand Vin was produced from 50% of the harvest. The wine is going to approachable early in its life. Drink from 2025-2055. 95-97

Darkly pigmented, deep ruby-red color that holds well to a purple hued rim. Aromas are of restrained dark-plum fruit with graphite. Meaty cassis & graphite fruit is supported by fresh acidity. The tannic structure is fine, but not astringent. Alcohol is balanced & the finish long lean with notes of cassis & graphite. The wine is elegant & rather classic in style. 04/22 DCAMW

The wine has a deep, dark, almost opaque ruby-red color. Aromas are of ripe, raisined, dark fruit, with earthy touches. There is a lovely freshness that lifts the palate. The fruit has a ripe, black-cherry nature & is a touch earthy & toasty. Alcohol is balanced. The tannins are fine grained & the structure is rounded & smooth, giving a little mouth-watering grip to the juicy dark-cherry fruit on the finish. 10/23 DCAMW
