After more than 10 years, I finally returned to write a new tasting note! And more to come.

    Dark ruby.
First nose of succulent black fruits and licorice, also some black fruit creaminess.
Second nose opened up sweet cassis, incense, petrol, freshly cut wood, some floral notes, with meaty and espresso endnotes, typical Paulliac nose and balanced, expecting a one-dimensional but pleasant wine.
Dry palate, a backbone of ripe blackcurrant and plum, medium-bodied, with notes of graphite, menthol and flowers. Solid tannin but not smooth. One-dimensional and a bit hedonistic.
A short to medium plum and incense finish in Paulliac balanced style.

Not a very accomplished red, but showed some Paulliac character. Very simple wine.

85=80, this wine is 85 according to my old standard. But after this 10+ experience and also to give more extent to my future rating, I tuned this down to 80 for the standard from now on.

Bought in Paris supermarket at below 10 euros, I forgot the price.
    Light ruby, low glycerin.
First nose showed watery raspberry with a hint of cheddar-cheese-like oak.

Second nose was mediumly expressive with loads of crushed candied raspberry, hint of petrol and incense, quite an alcohol level, turned to fresh sweet raspberry fragrance after a while, quite pure.

Sour entry, light bodied and extremely low tannin was present, hot, bags of medicine red fruit with mainly raspberry, sweet palate.

Easy short sweet finish with a twist of sour, hot, red fruits again.

Quite a precise and easy-drinking pinot noir at this price, but I probably won't buy it again, to try more wines. It was able to show the fundamental of pinot noir though, not bad.

  • 2009 Château Mont-Pérat

    Very dark ruby.

First nose was chalky with bags of red fruits, alcohol scent was a bit on the high side, with hints of petrol, quite a Merlot first nose though it was Cab-Sauvignon dominant, some Bordeaux's watery earthiness hidden at the back.

Second nose was not as expressive as I expected and quite closed, but showed more damped earth, ripe raspberries, incense and freshly-cut-wood-like alcohol. Some hints of herbs and dates which I could recognise the Cab-Franc.

Hot entry, full-bodied, red fruits dominated the palate, with chalky firm tannin but not smooth enough, quite mouth-drying, tons of flavour and concentrated, acidity was enough and just right, some espresso hints at the back, a big and rich palate.

Strong leathery finish with hints of espresso bitterness and sweetness, medium finish, smoother than the palate, not much fruit in the after-taste.

The tannin was still a bit astringent, and not a typical Bordeaux. Definitely had a high QPR, but a bit too big if it was not accompanied with food, which was my case. Worth a try, not a massive surprise but it did far more than its price already. I guess it is now near the end of its drinking window, have to drink it now if possible.
