  • 1996 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Decanted 45 mins, put back on the bottle and off to dinner in Santa Monica. Aroma exploded in a good way. Flavor typical lovely Bdx. Lots of tobacco, leather and mostly olive tapanade. Lovely. Great balance in super flavor. However, after an hour it started to fall apart. More tannins crept in and the fruit subsided, became somewhat course. Seemed it was not exactly ideal storage, bought this a year ago.

In perfect shape I'd say would be a great wine. This bottle was so until it wasn't! Great QPR that beats any new world cab by 1,000,000%

  • 1996 Dominus Estate Napanook Vineyard

Wah, was decent but far from previous bottles of this vintage.

This bottle was very advanced. Very. Almost as if it was exposed to heat at some point. Not sure how long I've had this but I somehow recall I bought this online a year or so ago, Big mistake!!!!!!! Previous bottles of this vintage from my cellar were clearly a world apart from this bottle. They were beautiful, lush, full bodied, super elegant.

This had an over arching burnt flavor of tobacco, cedar, torched leather, bramble, alcoholic cassis with a dash super black licorice, black berries and heat. Kinda disjointed based on the burnt echo in all the flavor, not the 96 Dominus I know.

What a shame. Note to self, yet again screwed by wine merchants claiming to have older wines stored under in temperature control since they were purchased. What a bunch of BS!! Luckily I have enough wine and won't have to deal w this ever again. Scammers.

  • 2015 Francois Lecompte Champagne Premier Cru Brut Millésimé

Had a glass at Mustards. Easy to drink, decent texture, aroma a tad better than the palette. Not very complex but a relatively good starter to get things going. Won't be seeking this out but felt it to be quaffable at a party etc. Otherwise, I Probably would not want to drink more than one or two glasses as would get boring.

1/27/2024 10:45:00 AM - Wow, sounds fun!! Appreciated the heads up. I haven't had Zinfandel in about 20 years lol, maybe more. I don't think I'll make it down this time, I'm in Napa. But please do keep me informed as to further tastings like this if you don't mind, I'd be most grateful. FYI, I had 2015 Bereche Ambonnay last night, stunning. Get some if you can find it. Also an 85 Jadot Corton which by luck was absolutely singing. Stay thirsty ))
