8/23/2013 1:06:00 AM - Hi All, I visited the venue again today. Corkage proposed was $10, but I've asked for a reduction. Worst case, it's nibbles plus three courses for $45/head plus $10 corkage per person. Proposed Logistics seem to indicate we'd better cap at 24 places - first 24 in with deposits of $20 per head. Please clearly indicate your name/ID on direct debit remittance. Deposits should arrive in my account by first thing Thursday 29 August. My bank details: John Lowry CBA BSB 063014 Acct: 10375824 Other details * Venue, The Moat, 176 Little Lonsdale Street, 6:30 for 7pm 31 August. Function to conclude by 11:30pm. * Calling for volunteer to manage flights and bottles on the night; ditto to collect additional cash; blind serving on the night is preferred. * Please pre-decant wines where desired, re-pour into bottles and bring ready-to-go. Spittoons will be provided. * Please bring each wine in 750ml x 2 (1500ml x 1) [covering contributions from two persons] where possible (perhaps co-operating with other attendees). * Please advise me by email the wine you wish to bring (name, vintage) and when you send your deposits; please advise any dietary requirements by next Wednesday night. * LGW and Sparky are bringing Magnums of Chardonnay; there's room for another 1-2 of those volumes of Chardonnay or other white wine if attendees wish to offer to bring same in place of Cabs and blends. Any thing else to cover? [I'm sure to have forgotten something. :-)] John

8/6/2013 7:57:00 PM - Update My email is j.lowry@bigpond.net.au. Here's what I wrote on Auswine Forum just now. http://forum.auswine.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13348&p=108389#p108389 Subject to confirmation - mostly re venue - I've nominated 31 Aug 6:30 for 7pm at 'The Moat', Basement, 176 Little Lonsdale St, Melbourne. It's near the corner with Swanston and near the State library and Melbourne Central. Easy access on trams and trains and plenty of parking stations within a few blocks. The manager seems very co-operative, food prices are mid-range [rather than more], and it's a cafe/wine bar with an appreciation for things wine lovers value, including glassware, decanters, spittoons, and room for wines yet to be served. You can find UrbanSpoon data here: http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/71/1631702/restaurant/CBD/The-Moat-Melbourne More details of prices and menus to come when finalised. Chances are some will find clashes with this date, but unless they are widely felt, we'd stick to 31 August as it would be as good as any other date.

8/4/2013 6:05:00 PM - That's good news dh. I'll advise when date is set. It'll be 3-4 weeks from now to suit the majority. Any dates you'd care to nominate as out for you? Are you OK with both mid-week and Fri/Sat night options? I'm aiming for a good venue - maybe a wine bar - that likely to prefer mid-week for their financial advantage.
