  • 2009 Massolino Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda

Off the charts amazing bottle of wine! A well ripened bottle of Barolo that is drinking beautifully right now. I was blown away by its power and finnesse. You feel how big it is and yet it is beguiling, beautifully balanced and stays on the palette for 90+ seconds.

Dark ruby color. Bouquet of deep ripe fruit with a just hint of leather. On the palette the wine is full bodied but perfectly balanced. The tannins were perceptible in the first 20 minutes or so. But once the bottle opened up the wine was soft and velvety and floated on the tongue. Dark ripe fruit notes continued and the wine finished with floral notes of violet that stayed on my breath for 5 or so minutes.

Drink this slowly over an entire evening when you have the time to think about it and savor it.

  • 2007 Le Chiuse Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

This wine is ready to drink now. Fruit, Tannins and Acidity are in great balance. We opened the bottled and let it air for an hour before dipping into it. Bouquet of ripe cherries made a little darker because you can smell some of that 14% alcohol.

On the pallet the fruit followed through and the alcohol did not overwhelm because the acidity and tannins were just enough to balance it out. Lasted easily for 30 seconds or so and we found ourselves going back to it again and again.

    One of my favorite Brunellos.

  • 2013 Musso Barbaresco Pora

I've opened this wine on the very early end of its drinking window. This wine is all structure. That is my main observation.

It's not closed, but it won't unfold easily on the palette either. You have to work it.

Every aspect of the wine is "strong" and balances other aspects out. Firm tannins, spices, earthy and dark berry notes and great acidity. Almost masculine for a Barbaresco.

I wish I had another bottle to open another 7-years later
