    2/28/2020 5:51:00 PM - A wine bar with BYOB, I am afraid that isn't available in our little city. But that does remind me of a little place that the wife and I go for our anniversary each year. The Mahle House in Cedar is a great place for a nice dinning experience. We will always bring our own wine there. We could meet at Browns Socialhouse, Longwood Brew Pub or Simonholt. They will all have your average Meiomi style wine list. Pick a place and date and we can go from there.

    2/24/2020 7:30:00 PM - Welcome to Nanaimo! You are correct, the selection here does suck. The ones I use are Everything Wine, buy it on-line and have it shipped. Shipping is free if you buy 12btls. The website isn't perfect, it lacks the proper bottle descriptions/vintage. But if you email them, they will confirm. The Liquor Depot "expensive" in the northend "Cheryl" the mgr is quite good. She will do her best to work with you on special orders. I mostly will order the wines from the brokers and have them shipped to the Liquor Depot. Vivino is also an option or I also order from ZYN.ca "Calgary, you most likely are familiar with. Oh, there is a new shop that opened up it's called Hammond Bay Liquor Store. I found a couple of btls the 2016 Sassicaia. The store from an organizational point of view is a mess, but I have hopes for the new owner. Shipping a cellar of 858 btls, will be interesting. Checkmate Winery ships to me using ATS Healthcare Courier. The trucks are air-conditioned. Lucky's Liquor store also have monthly tasting, usually the wines are meh. But with the right people it's a good time. If you are up for it, once you get settled. Drop me a note and maybe we can get together for a glass or two. Again... welcome to the Island.
