I have been drinking Santa Ema Merlots for years. In the early 2000s their merlot had a very distinctive cocoa finish. It was delightful. In the last couple of years, I have been chasing that finish to no avail. But this 2007 Reserve has it! So delicious. Dark ripe fruit, leather, and a hint of wood smoke on the front, and dark chocolate and leather on the finish. I need more.

This wine was a little more fruit forward than I had hoped it would be. That being said, I think it is still a good value at the $13-$15 range.
NOSE The nose contains notes of black fruit, berries, leather, and oak. Very pleasant and heady.
TASTE Jammy with black fruit and berries on the front, ending in leather and oak on the medium length finish. Would pair well with beef, lamb, or great just on its own. Very tasty.

The wine seemed a little thin & therefore on the cheap side, but I bought it BOGO at Publix so it was well worth the $5/bottle I paid. I thought it was a good every day drinking wine. It was good with Italian food and strong enough to stand on its own. I would purchase again.
