2018 Château d'Epiré Savennières

Pear, green apple, flintiness, lemony acidic finish, waxy body. I might have killed it early, because I think it needs to be a bit more together. But still, delicious with monkfish arroz caldoso.

2011 R. López de Heredia Rioja Reserva Viña Tondonia

Pours ruby with slight bricking at the edges, showing its age... Pretty much what you'd expect from a "young" Tondonia... initially a bit closed but opens up with air to reveal cherry, plums, earth, cigar soaked oak paneled basement and a juicy, acidic finish. Tannis are soft but present. As you'd expect, pairs great with serrano ham and any and all dishes that contain piquillo peppers, paprika and olive oil. Drink from now to forever.

2022 Ridge Valdiguié Frediani Family

So apparently Californian growers thought Valdiguie was Gamay until it was discovered that it wasn't via DNA analysis.
And it's plain to see why, because this is virtually indistinguishable from a quality Cru Beaujolais in every way.
The crunchy, brambly strawberry/raspberry/cranberry fruit, the hints of herbiness in the finish, the juicy acidity, it's all there. If you told me this is Fleurie or whatever, I would believe you without question.
And quite surprisingly, this is very fairly priced, considering how expensive the top Cru Beaujolais producers have gotten.
