  • 2009 Bodegas Muga Rioja Selección Especial

1 hour slow ox. Nose: Complex aromas of earth, funk, black pepper, celery and a floral hint underneath. Palate: Still solid acid levels and very evolved tannins. Muted blackberries and some plum abound with the pepper showing in ideal proportion. Just in a perfect place in terms of balance. This was a rarity in that it was my only bottle of this and fortunately a perfect time to open. This really impressed and so glad I waited all these years to open my one bottle. Fantastic! 92+ points.

  • 2019 Kumeu River Chardonnay Coddington

Nose: Complex aromas fusile petrol, crushed rock and slate. Just beneath are fairly intense Meyer lemon aromas. Absolutely stunning! Palate: Bright and intense this shows the Meyer lemons up front and shell minerals underneath. The acidity is like an industrial laser providing unreal levels of tension. My first experience with this producer but certainly not the last. As a Burg fan this pushes all the right buttons for me. What a wine!!

  • 2018 DuMOL Chardonnay Chloe Ritchie Vineyard

Nose: Lots of pineapple and some pear aromas along with coconut and toasty oak underneath. Very tropical aromas that take you to an island in the Carribean. Palate: Pineapple, light pear and fig up front with the oak showing just enough. Def sees malo and that shows in the richness yet it has more than ample acidity to butress that. While my palate is far more attuned to Burgs than Cali I've always liked the DuMol style. Well done and 91+points.
