  • 2009 Château Féret-Lambert

The cork came out perfectly. The wine decanted nicely with light sediment. The color shows a bit of tile in the edge. The wine is lighter than when it was young but the core is still deep and red. Color is good but shows a little sign of maturity. The bouquet is blackberry and some earth and clove and allspice. The taste is consistent with the bouquet. It is a medium quality mature wine. Very satisfying though lacking the quality of a big time mature Bordeaux. Bought at $14, 15 years later it is probably my at the peak now. It has been stored impeccably since release.

I am shocked by how good this wine is. It is crisp and flavorful with notes of pepper, apples and stone fruit with a nice touch of minerals. It is an incredible value. Trade Joe’s did it again.

  • 1990 Château Lascombes

This wine was bought at release (not en premier) and has been in my cellar of cool and excellent condition ever since. The cork eased out very nicely. The wine had a wonderful scent when it was decanted. It is medium-light in body but very fragrant and showing just a light warmer color. I was able to get a brilliantly clear wine after the bottle had been standing up for a couple of day. In the palate the wine style shows bright but evolved fruit. Mostly red fruit. There is tannins but not harsh. The flavor profile is not completely dominated by mature flavors which are there but there is a back ground of acidity and freshness keeping it away from mature wine only flavor profile. It is a pretty style of Margaux, with a little flower, violet and lilac. It is a beautifully attractive wine for a classic sort of lamb course. Just lovely and no hint of being passed prime.

2/7/2017 9:30:00 AM - Nice to hear from you - it certainly does look like we have similar tastes. I've had only a few 64 clarets; the Latour on 2 occasions, the Mouton, Lynch, Pichon Lalande. The Latour was the best by a mile, though the first bottle (from the same cellar) was completely dead. Haut Brion and La Mission finished picking the day after the rain started, so I have high hopes for those two (I've got a bottle of each I will probably drink within the coming year). Looking forward to finding some well-kept right bank wines from 64. Let me know if you ever pass through Boston.
