A really a nice surprise, as I forgot I had this in the cellar. Perhaps at peak or just about to peak. Slight bricking, dark ruby in the center. Full bodied. Definitely blackberry on the palate. Slight mature flavours but not as much as expected. Acidity is there and noticeable but I think it gives good lift to the wine. Some grainy tannins noticeable on the back of the tongue but the wine is smooth up front. Some wood noticeable on the nose, but well integrated on the palate. Medium-long finish. Some heat evident on the finish. I really liked this and it went well with a food. It can still age for years but I don't think it will improve.

The days of relying on White Burgundy to gracefully age are long gone. I am now trying to drink my way through what remains of my collection, as quickly as possible. What a shame. I've had brilliant aged examples of Leflaive in the past but after these 2007, it no longer seem that you can rely on this producer to make long lived wines. Caveat Emptor.

Aging Chablis is a gamble these days. Brocard has proven to be a producer to count on though. This example, while at peak, is excellent. The colour, while golden, is not dark. No bruised apple or sherry notes. Aged Chablis notes with lemon, mineral, some hazelnut. The acidy has transformed and is not as biting as in its youth. This helps to balance the wine and adds to its richness. Wish every producer was as reliable. I for one, have stopped buying and cellaring Chablis (and White Burgundy for that matter). Too many premox disappointments.
