  • 2013 Ixsir El

The 2013 El, Ixsir's top cuvee, is an absolute delight in the infancy stage of a promising evolution. This superbly balanced blend of Syrah, Cabernet and Merlot boasts a thick, almost impenetrable, deep purple core and unleashes an irrisistible aromatic bouquet of blueberries, vanillin, damp forest floor and hints of crushed rocks. This big and bold elixir indulges the palate with a muscular, full-bodied structure and interlaced layers of rich dark chocolate as well a lovely subtle blend of raspberry coulis and Grand Marnier. The delightful velvety finish lingers on and on, leaving you yearning for the next sip. This beauty could benefit from another couple of years in the cellar - not that I had any regrets pulling the cork now! To be enjoyed over the next 2 decades.

  • 1996 Château Kefraya

What's not to love about the prime time 96 Chateau Kefraya? This exquisite blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Grenache is endowed with an enticingly mature, deep garnet appearance and lovely secondary aromas of mint leaf, damp forest floor, led pencil shavings and crushed dried cranberries. It is full-bodied and luscious as it envelopes the palate with layers of caramel, Grand Marnier and fresh figs. The velvety finish is equally delightful and, whilst unlikely to improve further, this lovely fully mature wine should continue to provide pleasure in the glass for the next 5 years.

  • 1997 Château Angélus

The primetime 1997 Angelus is clearly an overachiever in this difficult vintage. Boasting a dense garnet robe this classy concoction delivers enticing aromas of fruit sponge cake, damp forest floor, wild berries and hints of cigar humidor. It is medium to full bodied, perfectly mature and loaded with deliciously intertwined layers of dark chocolate syrup and Grand Marnier. The finish is subtle yet irresistibly silky. While fully mature this is nowhere near the end of its prime and should continue to provide pleasure in the glass for at least another five years.
