10/19/2023 8:10:00 AM - Hi Mark, H block was a POP, not recommended, but it was great from the get-go and did not really change, maybe I drank it too fast. I will be coming down the end of December for 3 months. I am healthy now and would love to get together. If you are bored, peruse my cellar and let me know what you would really like to drink

10/17/2023 5:08:00 PM - John, I totally agree. My last bottle a year ago was all cab franc-ish! I've been drinking my '12s recently as I just picked up 6 more of them arriving this week! When are you coming down?

9/9/2023 1:15:00 PM - How was that Insignia vertical? Any special standouts, or just all of them standouts?

  • SMagowan says:

7/11/2023 6:36:00 PM - Hey michigan dogs, I am also a big Torrin, Saxum, and Booker fan (though I feel a little mixed about Booker since the Constellation purchase). Cheers!

4/15/2021 7:09:00 AM - I would love to, but I have eye surgery on April 20th which will put me down for 3 weeks. I appreciate the invite so lets make it happen next time you are in Paso.

3/26/2021 11:30:00 AM - awineo I'm coming to Paso Robles Wednesday night the 21 of April. I have tastings scheduled for Friday at Torrin, Booker, and Turtle Rock. I will also be scheduling tastings on Thurs and Saturday. If you are available anytime i would welcome having you join me at a tasting if you're interested.

2/11/2021 12:32:00 PM - Mdog.... I also love Booker and Torrin and am a club member. I suggest you check out Law one of the best.. lots of 98+ ratings, Fulldraw (next door to Booker)and Caliza (next door to Booker on the other side), Paso Port wine, distillery, port, Alta Colina (super syrahs), Adelaida (one of the originals and still great), Lone Madrone wines express the fruit the best of anyone, especially the whites (Neil is also the winemaker for Tablas Creek but this is his and he trys some great things)

11/26/2020 11:51:00 AM - mdogs......thanks! I appreciate you looking into it, but I'm sure there can't be many out there. I recently picked up an '00, '05 at auction. An '07 I had not too long ago was drinking beautifully....I'm really starting to enjoy well made Cali cab franc but some like Verite can be just too expensive! Have a great Thanksgiving!!!

11/22/2019 9:45:00 AM - Mdog....I'm not the biggest fan of syrah nor PS....I have to really be in the 'mood' for one so as a result I have only maybe 20-30 bottles in my cellar out of 1100. Have not had a Carlilsle PS but do occasionally enjoy one of my Turley PS every now and then. They are quite good! Turley also has cabs now but I don't find them to float my boat, think I have 1 left and won't buy more. I do have a few Outpost cabs and PS, VGS syrahs which are great it seems every year, also Relentless from Shaffer can be a really nice syrah blend as it ages.....I hope you were able to return that expensive Barolo for replacement or refund. Ouch! I've had to do that with a couple of $100-150 wines over the years. Wineries seem to honor them. Have never tried it at a retail establishment.

7/26/2019 10:11:00 AM - Hey md.....I'm currently holding my Quivet....a friend opened the '16 NV and the LPV a couple weeks ago. The NV tasted great the first 15 min, seemed to change for the worse after an hour if I remember right. The LPV was rich but seemed disjointed a bit, again if I remember right. I noticed afterward he didn't post the wines on CT like he usually does. I've enjoyed a few of the '16s I've opened. It is great fruit, but personally I'm holding most all of them for a year or two more. The fruit bomb is just wearing me down!

1/26/2019 5:00:00 AM - Curious how was the tasting? I was thinking about stopping by around 4 but I needed to get back to Ann Arbor at a decent time and decided that I didn't want to fight rush hour traffic on the way back. I've been picking-up some wine from Woods Wholesale Wine in Grosse Pointe lately - primarily the 2016 Celani cab. However, I'm not finding much in Michigan otherwise right now that I really love especially for the money. I need to stop by Old Woodward soon. Take care and thanks again for the heads-up.

12/25/2018 4:26:00 PM - M-Dogs, I'll have to take a rain check this time. Looking forward to our next opportunity!

  • GQG says:

8/6/2018 10:37:00 AM - Paid a visit to see Nick at Old Woodward Cellars on your recommendation -- left with a six-pack, on several of which (2014 Macauley Reserve Cab, 2014 Janzen Cloudy's Vineyard, 2014 Vice Versa Cab) I've posted Tasting Notes. Thanks for the tip, it's a fine store right in my backyard!

2/1/2018 10:09:00 AM - Michigan Dogs, Thanks for the heads up on the '13 Papera, I will queue one up. I am just now starting to drink the '13's.

1/2/2018 3:47:00 PM - Napa is a great place for your wife to have a Spa Day while you taste Napa wine.

  • bestdamncab says:

9/7/2017 10:33:00 PM - I can escort you both to a couple of winerys and then you go from there if it helps make it easier for you both.

  • bestdamncab says:

9/6/2017 4:18:00 PM - I think its time for you to visit Napa so I can pour you a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.

  • bestdamncab says:

4/9/2017 9:43:00 AM - In the 4th grade I worked for Mr. Pickering at the Franklin Cider Mill picking up paper cups and such after school-earned $0.25 per hour.

4/8/2017 10:46:00 AM - bestdamncab, thanks for the message. Interesting that we both have 60%+ Cali wine but almost no overlap, just a few bottles of Carlisle (my largest holding). I have little French, more Italian and Spanish. If you are in Michigan give me a heads up as I alwas can use an excuse to deink something good. I was born in 1947 in Detroit too. Go Blue

  • bestdamncab says:

4/8/2017 8:40:00 AM - Glad to be a friend. Having been born in Detroit 70 years ago, I still miss the winters, here in California we keep the snow in the mountains. Have a great day.

1/9/2014 12:42:00 AM - Well done michigan dogs, I am glad you enjoyed your visit. Priorat is always on my mind but have to reconize my style is closer to Rioja that's why I commented your kind TN cause it's a pity, in my unrefined opinion, as a spanish wine lover you're missing something...that's all By the way Rioja, and many other regions , worths a visit, I promisse :-) Take care with snow these days! Cheers!
