Sneak Peek: this wine won't be released until the end of the year, but this 2012 Reserve Cru is an amazing wine! It's 100% Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 100% New French Taransaud Oak - possibly the most famous French cooper out there. There's anise on the nose - a Coombsville signature - and dark, black fruits. Don't even think about red fruits...this is strictly black cherry, black currant, black plum - dark, dark, dark! This wine is dense, chewy, and has beautiful tannins. This is going to age beautifully, and is truly a spectacularly complex and balanced wine.

Very dark black-purple in color. The black currant, plum and creamy black cherry that was showing in its early days, is now being joined by secondary nuances in the nose; like dried tangy black cherry, dried blueberry and cedar bark. There is also a nicely integrated, round, spicy floral component that envelopes the fruit. The feel is round and supple; kept lively by beautiful acidity and sweet tannin balance. A lovely mouthful of black cherry-tinged black currant elixir carries effortlessly into a very long expansive finish dominated by creamy cassis. Drinking beautifully right now, especially with a couple hours or more of decanting. Just starting to show it’s expansive volume with plenty of years left but it’s hard to resist right now...so I didn't.

This particular bottle was, unfortunately, slightly past its prime. The nose was heavenly with dried strawberries being dominant, and earthy. The first impression of the taste was good - red fruits, cranberry, a bit of marzipan - but then got very thin through the middle, with no finish.
