  • 2004 Bodega Los Aljibes Aljibes

This was a beautiful Spanish Bordeaux blend that developed nicelty over 3 days of tasting. Initaially closed up a bit, the bouquet blossomed over the next couple of days of tasting. A nose of deep concentrated red fruit, cassis, mild vanilla and oak which is well integrated and not over blown. It's a wine that can be enjoyed as much for its nose as its palate. Smooth structured tannins, mature ripe fruit, moderate alcohol, medium body and finish. This is a memorable bottle of value priced wine and would compete with anything in the $40 to $50 range of Napa wines (which I am a fan of). Give it a few hours of time in the decanter to allow it to open up.

  • 2002 Jessup Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon

Beautifully crafted Napa Cabernet. It's just now starting to strech its legs and could go another 5 to 10 years in the cellar. Dark fruit nose, not at all bashfull with a subtle vanilla/chocolate undercurrent. Great balance between the ripe fruit (not jammy), velvety but solid tannins and enough acidity to take it to the table. Jessup has impressed me with another fine Cabernet, I'd buy it again without reservation.

  • 2005 Rosenblum Cellars Zinfandel Richard Sauret

Over the top stewed fruit soup. Port like flavors of rasins and prunes, heavy bodied California bomb. A little searing OH on the nose with concentrated extracted fruit trying to bust through. It is a hedonistic fruit snack but unbalanced and difficult to pair with anything. You actually get too much in this wine, too much hang time, alcohol, etc....
