11/14/2015 1:32:00 PM - Barolo is surprisingly rural and I ate local, avoiding the touristy establishments. The food was awesome, all of it. Some of the lesser known wineries that are open to the public for marketing purposes have their own on site restaurants that dish out Piemontese comfort food of the first order. I hope that helps.

11/14/2015 4:15:00 AM - WineWheelz, Unless you are visiting the Piedmont with someone in the wine trade, or have contacts, many of the wineries, most of the best ones, are not open to the public for tours or tastings. The town of Barolo has an Enoteca that offers about 30 wines to taste and individualized education experiences that include tastings. I understand there is an Enoteca in Barbaresco too. There are also private enotecas in the town of Barolo that charge higher fees for tasting aged Barolos that I found worth the premiums. I can recommend visiting Damilano's shop in Barolo proper (they have another store on the north outskirt of town as well), and Marchesi di Barolo puts on a very nice tour but they tend to be stingy with their tastings. I can also enthusiastically recommend G. D. Vajra. If you contact them by email three days or so in advance they are happy to accommodate, have an English speaking staff, and pour fabulous, traditionally styled wines. Salute!

8/25/2015 6:21:00 PM - Buzzzzoff, I have tried the Central Coast and Paso area and have some favorites down there: SeaSmoke, Law Estate, Linne Caloda, Alban, Saxum, and Andremily. Do you have any other recommendations? I also love the Santa Cruz Mountains and in particular Ridge Vineyards.
