  • 2015 The Standish Wine Company Shiraz The Schubert Theorem

Four years later, I'm still drinking in the heavenly realms. Only now, with a settled brilliance that was never in doubt.

There's lashings of plum, blueberry, blackberry, new leather, campfire, juniper, spearmint, cardamon, five spice, campari, and white pepper that herald in a palate of the highest Barossa Shiraz order. Powerful, eternal, exquisitely balanced, wonderously layered. Every sip is just:

    pure joy.

This is the best of the Barossa. A thirty year keeper. A big anniversary treat slurge. And a Wozza 97.

  • 2022 Charteris Chardonnay Hunter Valley

Beautifully made Hunter Chardonnay that smells like Champagne with lots of fine yeasty notes. But it has some intense, zesty notes, too, revealing a solid wine, with at least 10 years of ageabiliy.

Pineapple drops, white peach, lemon myrtle, brioche, nougat, hazelnut, oyster shell, all exude from the glass. The palate is intense, coiled, and lingers an age. It's quite a funky affair, possibly aimed at cellar door sweet of tooth, and not necessarily for the purists.

Early days, so enjoy 2027 to 2032. A Wozza 94 (Vivino 4.0) from me.

  • 2013 Penfolds Shiraz RWT

This 2013 is an exceptional RWT. Aromatic. Assertive. Deep. Layered. It heralds, regal pleasure.

A swirl gives walnut, cold roast beef, wood spices, French herbs, violet, iodine, and sweet satsuma and berry fruits. There's great presence in the mouth, with a firm, cooling mint and pencil-laden drive that frames the exquisite Penfolds-sourced Barossa black, red, and blue fruits. It never ends.

The 389 usually gets the Baby Grange monika. But I'd say this is more what I'd expect from a Baby Grange.

    Easily a Wozza 97.
