  • 2016 Argiano Solengo Toscana IGT

1 hour decant then back into the bottle. Served and drunk over the next few hours. This just hummed and purred the entire way through to the very end of the bottle.

Deep purple color. Power packed with cotton candy, delicious black, blue and red fruits and currants on the palate. Very fine tannins. Mouth watering acidity that lends to a long lingering, sultry finish. No amount of restraint will help you from wanting another glass or another sip. It's that good.

I was lucky to pick up a 6 pack on Winebid a few months ago for $45 btl before auction premium and tax. A steal IMHO.

Drink now and for the next 10 years.

  • 2019 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Pajè

Popped the cork and allowed 6 hours to breath. With time and swirling in the glass, it helped things along.

Expressive nose. Black cherry, cherry syrup, & strawberry commingle.

Super sleek, refined, juicy, and puckery on the palate with a long-ish finish.

Perfect acidity that is subtle, yet keeps you coming back for more. Time will allow this to become even more refined and more elegant. A super wine from a super producer and super vintage.

I drank alongside the '19 Rio Sordo (96). That wine has great attributes but it will most certainly need 3+ years to get to a place of readiness. It really may need 5+. But all the goods are there and will show great one day.

But back to this. The Paje compares closely to the '19 Montestefano that I was just gaga over (99pts). This is similar to that in almost every way. It could be it's twin. This is gonna be hard to keep my hands off. It's so good and accessible now.

But I will keep my dirty paws off of it because I promised myself I will Goddammit!. I can't break yet another promise to myself again can I? The discipline to not open another bottle will show what men of steel are made of. Did I just say that?? Oh Lawd. Might as well get me a corkscrew already. Me and Paje are going to Par-tay! :)

  • 2019 Tenuta di Collosorbo Brunello di Montalcino

This really needed a day with the cork off to show it's best.

On day one, this was very closed and didn't reveal much, except it's broad shoulders and bold fruit. But by the next evening this was lovely.

Very dark, red black in color. This palate was full of dark exotic wild berries, brown sugar, and some cinnamon. I loved the sappiness, deliberate delivery, and juicy finish. This made for a very yummy wine for me.

While this may not necessarily be considered a top tier Brunello, especially for the traditional Brunello enthusiast (myself included), I really enjoyed this and look forward to trying again.

7/14/2020 11:21:00 AM - Ahhh yes... Your TN from 10/14/19. Doh! How'd I miss that? (too much wine maybe ? Lol) Your notes were so spot on btw. I'm glad you tried it among some of the other Italianos. The Saffredi is awesome. Guado too. I can't wait to try '17 & '18. It's easy to go for the big names, with big price tags, and brag to your friends (or yourself ;-) But finding awesome wines at good to great prices is the grail & the sweet spot for me. And from what I can tell about the wines you get excited about, I'm guessing you might feel the same. Cheers!

7/14/2020 9:38:00 AM - Thanks for posting your suggestions on my message board. I've actually had the '16 Argiano Solegno and really loved it (TN posted on CT). It was spun-up pretty good in the beginning, but once it fanned-out over a few hours, it was compelling enough for me to buy more! I liked it a lot. I have the '17 Saffredi on pre-arrival, but have yet to try previous vintages. I'll be picking up some '15 and '16 for sure. The Grattamacco and Argentiera I have not had, so I will be adding them to my list of 'must get' based on your recommendation. I'm certainly newer to the Italian wine scene, so I very much appreciate your recommendations. I've been trying to focus on '10, '13, and especially '15 and '16 vintages and have had decent luck. I've been loving the Antinori Guado al Tasso in 2016! Thanks again. Cheers!
