Every now and then I will have a $200 bottle of good ol’ Cali wine like this and scratch my head and wonder why I ever pay $1,000 for those Lafite’s.... This wine is near perfection. What an extraordinary vintage 2007 was. They have a few other bottlings as good as this at Saxum. 15.7% alcohol hits you at first but after an hour decant the heat subsides and the amazing structure comes out. What a long finish this has. Pure joy.

A perfect wine at its peak. Drank after 1 hour decant, high alcohol but no tannins. Smooth and velvety like blackberry jam but with nice structure of a much more expensive wine. I can’t recall ever tasting a better Syrah in this $200 price range. Magnificent QPR.

Plonk. At 750k+ cases a year this will turn Pinot into the new Merlot. Watch out for Sideways II where Pinot is the butt of all jokes
