  • 2010 R. Stuart & Co. Pinot Gris Big Fire

Very pale yellow-gold color. Expressive aroma of melon and lime, with some minerality. On the palate, lime zest, lime, green apple, and melon dominate. Very dry and crisp, with good acidity and balance. Great mouth-feel and nice, long lime dominated finish.

Not decanted. Clear, dark garnet color. Reticent black cherry nose. On palate, the cherries turn at little sweeter, with a little earth and oyster shell. Mouthfeel is excellent, as is the mid-palate and finish. As with just about all the Oregon 2008s I've had, this is very tight. I will likely not open another for several years.

I find it interesting that all the the Dundee Hills 2008s I've had to date (Cameron, Eyrie, R. Stuart, Westrey, Winderlea) have had a darker character than I would normally expect from this AVA - a little less Chambolle and a little more Gevrey.

  • 2007 R. Stuart & Co. Pinot Noir Winderlea

Popped and poured. Deep, clear garnet color. My first impression of this wine was that, while the concentration was there, the rest of the wine seemed somewhat disjointed. After a couple of hours, the wine pulled itself together. The nose showed classic Dundee Hills sweet cherry and oyster shell. On the palate, the sweet cherry quickly gave way to concentrated layers of black cherry, sweet cherry, white pepper, cinnamon, and allspice. Strong mid-palate, long finish. I like the Winderlea version of this wine a lot, but this is better.
