Splash decanted for 20 minutes. I think Yamadori nailed this pretty well. Blackcurrant, plum and tobacco leaf on the nose with an increasing menthol note as the wine evolved. Medium bodied with blackcurrant and plum fruit profile. Some secondary notes of tobacco and a little spice. Great minerality and acidity which extends through the 30 second finish. Tannins are unobtrusive. Very good but the fact that Robert Parker rated this an 89 prevents this from being a 90 pt wine for me.

Once a favorite. Still a monolithic wine, but now with fading candied fruit and noticeable heat on the finish. No complexity or benefits from bottle age that I can detect. A little ripe on finish, but not overly pruny. Very advanced for its age with noticeable browning at the edges. Not the train wreck that is the 2003 Koplen, but at most, 87 pts. Drink up.

If you are new to wine, drink up because it won't get any better. If you have a modicum of patience and particularly if you have had to good fortune to try an older Insignia, put it down for a decade or more and your patience will be rewarded.
