  • 2018 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny

Nose: Not much there in sense of aromatics - fairly tight, undeveloped and closed. What was there was Rhöne-like dark berries. Might well improve/expand in future w added maturity.
Mouth: Flavours like a Rhône wine, intense, some blackberry and cassis, a bit of tar/leather, but not at all Burgundy style! And if that's what you're looking for.. stay the hell away from this wine.
Overall: An ok wine IF bought as a Rhöne. V disappointing bought as a Burgundy as it was quite expensive - I naively thought an otherwise great producer could deliver the goods even in hot years. But no.

  • 2010 E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Philipson 25th Anniversary

Still drinks v well, being at the top, having beautiful tertiary aromas.
Plenty of fatness, ripe fruit, licorice, leather, a bit of barn.
If having been kept optimally (as is still the case today, when you get it from Philipson), it should easily drink well for another 3-5 yrs. (Heck - real connoisseurs might love it in 10 or 15 ;-)
According to a newspaper review posted on Philipsons site 600.000 btls.(!) was produced.. that explains why he's still having it for sale. At $12.5 it's quite a bargain.

  • 2010 Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion Blanc

Nice classic, mature, viscous and rather rich, chewy (fr: mâche) Bordeaux blanc: tropical fruits, white peaches, elderberry, slight petrol (as in aged Riesling).
Quite sweet, but still balanced, having only recently entered its drinking-window, it will only get better (if you like mature wihte bordeaux type wine) for the next, say, 5-8 yrs.
A bargain at $50 /btl. now when ready to drink - it's a good thing white Bordeaux isn't overly popular!
