Fresh ripe strawberry here on the nose, layered with a licorice sweetness. Fresh bright red fruit on the mouth, strawberry and framboise, silky with polished tannins. Too ripe ? No, I think there is refreshing acidity to counterbalance the sweet fruit. Racy and lively. Have not had other bottles to judge whether this is peaking, but it seems like it to me. Grand cru level quality for the expansiveness of the mid-palate, which sweeps, lingers through the burnished tannin on the finish.

Black licorice, layered with a hint of red licorice, and an earthy expression of that nuits st George sauvage, on the nose. Tangy fresh red fruit drying on the finish. Tasty still but seems on the back end of the drinking window.

Dynamic nose, red licorice and red fruits. This has freshness, and fine-teeth tannin. It is primary still, and is both silky and (for a Volnay) massive with mouthfuls of ripe raspberry. More representative of the vintage than the appellation, but I mean that in a good way. I would hold for at least five more years.
