11/15/2022 10:02:00 AM - Thanks for the note Danny! I've been lucky to try a few vintages of Clos Ste Hune - 2003, 2008, 2009, 2011 - all outstanding, singular Rieslings. I hope you have a chance to try one some day. Sadly, it seems like the allocations are getting smaller as the wine gets the respect it deserves. Nowadays we only get about 12-18 bottles for the whole province each year (which sell out in less than a minute) and we are under the monopoly of one of the world's largest wine purchasers.

11/4/2022 4:45:00 PM - Thanks Danny! I've been doing fine and sure appreciate you reaching out. I've definitely failed to keep up with tasting notes and need to do a better job of them. I hope once I'm through this quarter at work I can have more free time in the evenings for that sort of thing. Hope you're doing well too, and thanks again!

  • streethawk says:

11/2/2022 12:03:00 PM - Thanks for the kind words! Cheers :)

8/17/2022 6:03:00 AM - My summer has been mostly quiet but a bit complicated, ok, though, since it followed a 5 week Spring trip to Portugal, Spain and France that included Douro Valley, Rioja and BDX. Nice to be somewhere cool while it’s been so hot elsewhere. Speaking of which, do I remember correctly that you’re in NYC? Hope you’re well and cheers!

4/1/2021 2:43:00 AM - 3/2021: The U.S. government has paused the tariffs on most French, Spanish and German wines, at least for four months.

3/24/2021 5:06:00 PM - Thanks Vinomazing. Have been lurking for a while but decide to finally join the Cellar Tracker community.

  • Vinomazing says:

1/27/2021 2:10:00 PM - More Tariff Info 1/27/2020: The alcohol industry, among many others, is lying in wait to see how the newly established Biden Administration will handle the trade war initiated by his predecessor. The alcohol trade war under the previous presidential administration caused a 39% drop in imports of Scotch to the US and an additional 41% plunge in exports of American whiskey to the EU, according to DISCUS. And if nothing is changed, the EU’s tariff on American whiskey will automatically increase to 50% in June if disputes on steel and aluminum are not resolved. With that in mind, 72 US and EU trade associations sent a formal letter to President Biden and the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, asking for the immediate suspension of all tariffs unrelated to ongoing steel, aluminum, and aircraft disputes.

  • Vinomazing says:

1/7/2021 11:04:00 AM - Some recent tariff updates effective 1/12/2021...what BS: The US Federal Register has now published an updated list of commodities to enter the existing WTO retaliatory tariff program. This change will become effective on January 12, 2021 with changes that will primarily affect French and German wines and spirits. For your convenience, here is a summary of the commodities that are currently subject to the 25% add valorem tariffs. Still wines of 14% abv. or less in 2 liter bottles or less imported from France, Germany, Spain and the UK. Liqueurs and cordials imported from Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Single malt or straight whiskey from Scotland and Ireland. The wines and spirits listed below will be added to the list of commodities subject to additional tariffs effective January 12, 2021. Still grape wines either above or below 14% abv and in containers of any size, bottled or in bulk, from France and Germany. Semi-sparkling wine from France and Germany Grape brandies, including cognac, holding under 4 liters and valued at over $38.00 per proof liter from France and Germany. As a reminder, the ad valorem tariff set at 25% will be calculated from the cost of the products at importation. As a standard set forth by Customs Border Protection, the cost is extracted from the commercial invoice issued by the producer at the country of origin.. Tariffs will be billed in addition to any other duties, taxes, and fees applicable to the importation.

9/4/2020 3:06:00 PM - Regarding the Chad blend 2015 and 2016: I would decant a 2016, in part based on the overall assessment of the two vintages. I will decant the next 2015 I try. Thanks for the question. Don

7/20/2020 5:55:00 PM - Glad to help out Vino, anytime! I have loved the '07 and '08 that are drinking exceptionally well right now. The '15 is a shade behind and it def needs more time to mature. My '16s will be in next week. I'll probably coravin one of them to enjoy over the next year but most will sit for 5-10 years before drinking. This is great stuff!

10/12/2019 8:56:00 AM - Hey there! I just saw your post on my message board. Haha! You crack me up! Thanks for the message. I'm sure my "style" is an acquired taste for some (meaning that others undoubtedly think I'm a complete annoyance or that I at least speak too frankly about my experience with a particular bottle of wine or winery - Oh well, such is life on the internet I suppose). Anyway, thanks for the support and for your TNs as well. Good stuff!

1/31/2019 9:33:00 PM - Hey! …. Love your handle. To answer your question on the 2014 Jorge Ordoñez & Co. Málaga #2 Victoria. We had it with a Blueberry pie with whipping cream topping. The wine went ok with the pie but it was not as good a complement as I have had with other desserts including Crème Brulee, and an apple torte. It does well on its own but it is so sweet I like some solid sweets to accompany it.....the blueberry was good with it but it overwhelmed some of the lighter flavors of the wine. This is one of my wife's favorites and reasonably priced for its quality. I hope you enjoy it

11/10/2018 8:30:00 AM - Vinomazing, your question was: I have some Ronchi 96' and 99' Schioppettino CiallaRosso cellaring and plan to open the 1st 96' except I do not have experience, are you by chance familiar? Answer: I am very familiar with Ronchi di Cialla, which is an excellent, iconic producer for both Schioppettino and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. I tried the 1999 Schioppettino di Cialla last year, but not anything older. Based on that, the 1996 might be getting to where the tertiary aromas are prevailing over the fruit, so I would definitely pop that and use that as a guide. But Ian d'Agata thought in 2017 that the 1996 Schioppettino di Cialla would show well through 2024, so who knows. The Cialla Rosso is typically a blend of 50% Schioppettino and 50% Refosco, which should be quite tasty and possibly even more age-worthy. Is that the one you have?

But my pops had never experienced Daniel, so OK now maybe we are done?? Bucket list checked off for me and familia!!

  • Vinomazing says:

10/17/2018 11:12:00 PM - Finally, after 5 years waiting for this Guitarra master to come around, just scored front row Benise tickets. His fingers are faster then eyes can see! Strunz and Farah are the only comparable I have seen live. Excuse me while I go tune my guitar and pretend I can play flamenco!

10/5/2018 10:14:00 PM - "Peace and Love, peace and love" says Ringo. I asked myself, is there any other Ringo anybody else knows, is he the most famous Beatle because of his super rare name? Think about it, who else comes to mind if you just say "Ringo", lol. Paul rules though, and Mozart before him!

10/4/2018 8:07:00 PM - Mait, dangit, that is an exponentially helpful TN. Descriptive, circumstances outlined, food pairings, future tell, and other feedback from guests n' all. Wow to this TN, and I am glad to have a few ordered and ready to pick up. PORK CHOPS, not the Elvis kind! Cin cin my friend, kudos on this TN!

  • maitredgreg2 says:

10/4/2018 7:04:00 PM - Popped open a bottle 10 minutes ago. Gotta get to the bottom of this wine to accurately describe it, so I'll let decant for 2 hrs before tasting. Will get back with notes later plus rating. 2 Hrs has arrived, poured to 4 guest, with 3 Filets off the pitt, and one 16oz pork chop, with a steens creole demi-glace. Tony, "Wow, that's good", Barbara, "Wow, this is delicious, I'll take 6 bottles, Vic, " this is good, Lisa hadn't tasted yet. Now, I tried with a taste of filet, which was good, but with the pork chop, "Wow", not a big WOW!, but enough of a wow. Now, I can understand some saying that they've gotten palate fatigue, and the alcohol, was too prevalent, which I may have to agree, but by giving this wine more time in the bottle or a long decant should help the process of the alcohol to integrating. Now I'd give it a 91.5. Two years from now 92-93

10/2/2018 7:33:00 AM - Heyooo...Well I must apologize to you, I went overboard, on your TN. It did finally bring out some good detailed and explained Champagne comments and points finally made, wish that guy did that from the get go. They just seemed to start off like a Dbag, and then the biblical terms really set me off. Sorry mate, thanks for being so chill, I am also 99% of the time. And you sir, are one of the Champagne masters, that is obvious!

  • Vinomazing says:

9/30/2018 7:28:00 PM - Hey Buddy....hope you are doing well! It is really no big deal, but happens too often lately, rude 1st comments as if you are wrong in your TN and opinion. You my boy Blue!!! Got your back.
