Opened an Imperial (6.0L) purchased at the winery in 2006 for the office Holiday Party we hosted, figuring it was now or never on this big boy. Properly cellared (upright though) for 12+ years, cork extraction was perfect (to my surprise), and tasting about 90 minutes before serving cured my considerable skepticism.
Served with dinner (for 18), and although light-to-medium bodied, brackish in color and short on the finish, there was just enough fruit left, coupled, with residual (soft / barely noticeable) tannins and a silky-smooth mouth feel, to make this a perfectly fine choice for the occasion.
It will certainly not “blow up your skirt” at this point, so if you have any of this vintage in your cellar I encourage you to enjoy it soon, especially if you have it in 750 or magnum. Sadly, we didn’t finish it (extended cocktail hour had something to do with that!), be we came close enough and have no regrets.

Enjoyed in 3.0 liter format at a recent dinner party for 6, and we were all pleasantly surprised by what it delivered. We did not have time to decant, and in hindsight it was not necessary. Soft tannins gave way to a lush and pleasing earthy / minerally flavor reminiscent of a well-aged Bordeaux. When we reached the bottom of this big boy we were left wanting for more, but alas we had to move on to something else. If you like fruit bombs this is not for you, but if not, and you have one of these laying around in large format, my advice is to invite some friends over and pop this now.
