12/27/2017 12:50:00 AM - DStone, Re 2008 Jermann Vinnaioli Vintage Tunina Venezia Giulia IGT. I found this wine very ripe, rich and almost faintly sweet, so would suggest rich seafood, possibly in a butter or cream sauce. Shrimp Scampi or a New England Lobster Roll come to mind.

8/6/2015 4:57:00 PM - You are lucky! Being able to meet the vintners and sample their wines there... The wine you referred to - the link will not take me to it, but I see that it is a Patrick Englist wine. I have not heard of him. We get very, very few Spatburgunders here in the US and if we do, they will go to bigger markets like New York, LA, San Francisco, Washington DC, and Chicago. I live in the middle of the country and far, far away from these markets. I have to live on my memories of living in Germany and being able to explore Europe and enjoy all that there is to offer there! Now, because of that, I am bit by the wine "bug" and enjoying the journey. Don

8/6/2015 1:43:00 PM - Nice to meet you, and thanks for your message. You are certainly on the right track with Huber regarding Spätburgunder from Baden. There is also Johner and Heger, but these are all stars. There are many "undiscovered" small vintners who make excellent Pinot Noir, especially the basic ones without much wood influence and with high varietal typicity such as the Engist: www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=2047779 But I can see the difficulty in getting them because without stardom they are unlikely to get exported. I meet them on wine festivals and buy at a very cheap price directly from the vintner.
