  • 2014 Immortal Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Slope

This was a good wine, IMHO not at this price point of ~$70. Some of the notes I read from others - gorgeous, luscious, amazing, complex...I just didn't find that with this particular bottle.

I am far from as experienced and lacking the expertise as others on CT, but a couple notes:

Opened and decanted, did a small PnP sample. I concur with others, for a Cali wine this was a relatively medium bodied cab. First impression was very acidic, hot - almost prickly. High alcohol(14.9%). A surprisingly nice coating of the palate and a spicy, again prickly finish that lasted a bit. Revisited 1.5-2 hours later and it seemed some air helped bring this wine together a bit more. I poured back in bottle for the night, about 2/3 left.

Day 2 this baby had noticeably calmed down allowing some of the fruit and secondary notes of smoke, mild tobacco and leather to come through. Much more approachable but even so, I think this wine was just lacking integration, balance and the multi dimensional profile I would expect from a wine at this price. A few years should do this wine a favor.

  • 2015 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Distinction Series Napa Valley

Agree with others on here. Doesn't blow your socks off but for this price point this is absolutely worth the cost. Poured about 2 mouthfuls off the PnP and it was very fruit forward but not too sweet or rich. I'd say a medium + body. Nice balance of acidity with the spice, fruit and smoky/licorice flavor. Coats the palate nicely and finishes very nicely for a $30ish bottle of Cab.

  • 2016 Alexander Valley Vineyards Cyrus

Third go at the Cyrus after trying the 14 and 15. Personally wasn't too impressed with either of those, but they were better than the 2016 - at least at this point. Tried two bottles with similar results. Decanted for 45 minutes and about half drank first night. On the nose was some fruit, but did not transfer to the palate very well. Medium bodied. Initial faint notes of tobacco, oak and black fruit on the palate but were secondary to overpowering acidity. Disappointing finish. Day 2 of remaining half was no improvement. Definitely needs a few years in the cellar. Their flagship AVV Cab is actually pretty decent for the price point. I would not buy this again at ~$60
