  • 2006 Marcassin Chardonnay Three Sisters Vineyard

Had the Marcassin at a Chardonnay blind tasting along with 7 other wines. Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing wine of the evening. It actually came in last in the blind taste and was even beat out by a Chardonnay for $6.99. I actually expected more from a Turley cult wine. The wine didn't seem corked, but will try at least one more 2006. However, if the wine was not corked, this is one of the worst values in California Chardonnay @ $75 a bottle. I remember a blah nose, metallic taste and too much oak.

  • 2006 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon

Very nice, a touch of cedar and olive on the nose. Fruit forward and toasty oak, smooth, sweet tannins. I really like this wine in the $40 range.

  • 2008 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot

Hmmm. Not sure about all the great reviews here. I love Pride wines, but this one just wasn't that good. It was tasted blind at a party amongst 6 other Napa /Sonoma Merlots. It scored last and there were a few $5 wines added to the mix for fun. I was quite disappointed by this wine because my expectations were high after barrel tasting the 2009 Merlot at the Winery. The unreleased 09 was delicious straight from the barrel. I was not the only one to score this one down, it was pretty much unanimous at our party, except for one fellow who had it 4th out of 7 wines. The nose wasn't there and the finish fairly weak. I am not sure if this one just needs a few more years in the bottle.
