Very light and clear in color, almost disturbingly so as the last Alyssa I had was 2006 and was underwhelmed. Despite the color, this one did not disappoint. Solid earthiness and some bright fruits on the nose. Immediately the palate throws raspberries and sweet cherries at you with beautiful acid and somewhat jarring tartness. Finishes bright and tart...a bit like a Jolly Rancher without jammy sweetness. Not quite as thoughtful of a wine as one would hope but very pleasing regardless. Got a couple more, not sure there's room for much development.
Double decanted. Nose is oak, toasted marshmallow, funk, floral and raw almonds. Palate is a strong oak attack but with lower malolactic fermentation so it still has some nice liveliness. Good acid, overripe peaches, vanilla and white flowers. Finish is a bit clunky but overall is full and maintains a strong acidity with powerful oak, slight lemon leaves and bright flowers. A full bodied wine with power but not forceful. Well done and still has some strength of youth.

Deeply colored with great clarity. Black cherry, blackberry, some buried oakiness on the nose - hints at complexity but needs time. Has a buttery mouthfeel - could mistake it for merlot. Medium palate again expresses black cherry, raw almond, red plum, some tar, smoked meats might be in there in a few years - again, like the nose, it shows promise for development. Tanins are fine but still need some integration. Finish is long and linear. I think give it 2 to 3 years to hits its stride.
