Dream wine: 2005 Domaine Romanee Conti La Tache
Wine is a great pastime because it lets me exercise both my left-brain through my need to be organized which CellarTracker facilities and my right-brain through the subjective and emotional enjoyment of drinking and tasting wine. I love learning the back stories of winemakers and how they first fell in love with wine and winemaking and understanding how they show the land through their wine efforts and how they impart themselves and preferences on wine.

  • 2007 Ridge Geyserville

Popped and poured. This is a great example of what cellaring can do with a wine. When I had this wine in 2010, it was good, but now it is far more integrated and the tannins have softened considerably. Definitely my favorite Ridge Zin blend and 2007 is a great year for Ridge. Flavors consisted of cherries and earthiness with some black pepper. Finish not very long, but it was able to stand on it's own and complimented the ravioli and Italian sausage we had for dinner tonight.

  • 2009 Arnot-Roberts Syrah North Coast

Pop and poured for Easter lunch. Didn't completely overwhelm the food, and seemed a fair compliment to the ham. A nice lighter version of Syrah but still has the spice and meat but without a lot of heat. Finish wasn't anything extraordinary, but still superior to anything in your local grocery store.

  • 2007 Thomas Fogarty Pinot Noir Windy Hill Vineyard

A nice lighter Pinot in taste and thickness. Color was garnet. Tasted and smelled completely closed up for the first hour, but after that it seemed to really open up nicely. Strong flavors of tart cherry, spice, hint of pepper. I did not detect any smokiness as other reviewers had. Somewhat watery lighter finish and the smell at times borders antiseptic (definitely sways more to acidic than alcoholic), but decent mouth feel. Definitely better than the majority of Pinots available in the grocery store, but for $40, there are better ones out there.
