2006 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée

Last enjoyed eight years ago. Still beautiful nose of iron, blackberry jam, and a chocolate menthol sweetness. Mature wine in the mouth with rustic blackberry and licorice, all integrated well. Balanced at a moderate level with just the right amount of fruit, tannin and acidity. This needed 30-60 minutes of air to open.

This is drinking much better than my last tasting fourteen years ago. Bottle age have done wonders for the sharp edges and volatility, which have softened. Still cherry cola, with a roasted port-like profile. Now much lighter on it's feet with a gentle acidy binding the secondary and tertiary flavor elements. Perhaps I'll save my last bottle another fourteen years.

Best showing yet over roughly a dozen years of consuming this case. Very fresh strong acidic base. Great depth of flavor, roasted cherry fruit, herbal, cola. The earlier ripeness has evolved into a nice profile of secondaries. This bottle was going strong.
