Rather flat and nondescript on opening, but really got going after half an hour or so. It developed richness and length with a striking acidity. Don't write this one off; perhaps let it sit for a while before serving.

Stunning nose on this. On the palate, it was far more interesting on day two; it felt like it was more alive and playing on the edge. Day one was a bit too perfect and obviously show-stopping for me. All in all, a really impressive Barbaresco.

2022 La Stoppa Ageno

For some reason, I'd never tasted Ageno before despite seeing it in stores and on wine lists everywhere here in Italy. To me, this seemed an orange wine for people who think they don't like skin-contact and macerated whites. That's not a criticism. Each glass was fresh, slightly floral, and really enjoyable. I, however, longed for something to emerge that was slightly challenging, something to make me think a little. This would be a hit at a party or event I'm sure.
