This winemaker was one of the most intriguing I stumbled upon on my summer Paso visit. His vines are pruned but untrained (no trellising). Dry farmed, so his production must be super low.
This Zin blend is one of the best I've ever tasted. I sat at his dining room table this summer and asked how he could even make a living growing grapes like that. He said he didn't care, he wanted to do it different. And that he does.
Beautiful nose, incredible blending, smooth yet big, so much fruit. all over the place but not suffering from lack of integration. I cannot wrap my head around this wine. Other than I love it. 97+ points. And it will probably only get better. And it's reasonably priced!!

I apologize if the following sounds like hyperbole, or insider fake review. I swear, it's for real....
It's seldom I get truly excited by a wine. I love the stuff, but pee your pants excited is once every 5 years. Maybe.
It admit that I was fascinated to see the dry farmed, head trained vines on such steep hills on shattered shale soil. (Shay dat 5 times fast).
Wonderful on the nose, it actually wakes you up. This is the smelling salts of wine. Not harsh, but wakes up ALL your senses.
Syrah, Grenache, and a touch of Petite Sirah. Berries and cherries and plums and goes on and on.
I hope so much that the other offerings are as amazing. I can only imagine what age might do for this wine. Too bad I drank it!
I was impressed at the tasting, and it was one of two I joined out of 15 fantastic vineyards on this trip. And it didn't disappoint once I got it home and in the cellar. He shoots, he scores!!!
Sorry, Stanley Cup Playoffs...

Needed something to pair w Christmas ham. Perfect! It's still drinking well. Nicely aged but still some fruit, slight raisin flavor but not too much.
