Dark and dense appearance with little bricking obvious. On the nose it is very much pencil shavings, ripe red fruits, and a flinty, mineral edge. It really does take a while to open up, and the nose is not going to draw you in, but persist! The palate is savoury, with powerful yet proportional tannins. A little chocolate, vanilla, the fruit more ripened cherries and a little spice. As this suggests, there’s decent oak integration, although that is likely to advance with age. It’s in a good place now but needs at least an hour of air to open up and probably has a good 4 years left to develop. This is a decent mid-week Bordeaux and for £18 good value.

Chocolate, red currant; great acidity and richness. An excellent cool climate Shiraz-Cabernet with great depth and intensity. Perhaps needs a few more years to develop to its potential.

Tobacco, liquorice, cinnamon on the nose. On the palate it’s high acid and grippy tannins, but still some great red fruit flavour.
