  • 2016 Kinsman Eades Cabernet Sauvignon Rhadamanthus

This wine will be ready in 3 to 5 years from now. I opened this on Thanksgiving, decanted for 2 hours and it was too tannic, so back in the bottle it went. On Friday, I decanted the bottle at around 1pm and by 7pm, it was finally ready and I could taste all of the goodness in the bottle.

Dark red and purple, strong fruit smells; primarily with black and blueberries, and plum. Lot's of mineral -- as in lot's. Chocolate covered blackberries.

I had to work with this wine over 2 days and it was one of the more memorable bottles that I have had recently. It was a great experience!

  • 2017 Myriad Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard

I have only tasted a few 2017s thus far and this offering was just outstanding. It was, unfortunately, the 1st good/great bottle of 2017 that I have had. When you drink this, you can forget about the year and concentrate on the wine.

Dark purple with slight red notes, a nice sweet (but not too sweet) smell, rich, luscious and creamy Mike Smith style that not over the top; just right. Lot's of purple and red fruit, notes of chocolate and coffee, and signature earth and gravel from the Dr. Crane Vineyard.

I coravin'ed a glass but it was so good, I opened it up and finished it off!

  • 2015 Carter Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon La Verdad Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard

This wine joins the ranks of the 100 point club; an elusive club with only a few participants and all great company (Abreu Madrona Ranch, Fait Main's LPV, and Chris Tynan's Meleagris Gallopavo Vineyard) with great winemakers (Brad Grimes, Benoit Touquette, Chris Tynan and now Mike Smith). Not surprisingly, all are from the St. Helena AVA and two are from my favorite vineyard, Beckstoffer's Las Piedras Vineyard.

When I had a Coravin pour last weekend, time stood still as it was just remarkable. Opaque purple throughout, medium-bodied, a strong smell of primarily black and blue fruit, intermixed with cocoa and earthy gravel notes. This is very well made, it has perfect balance and harmony, just the right amount of acid, nicely integrated tannins, stunning purity and quite a long finish.

I opened the bottle last night and I was worried that it would have changed but fortunately, it did not -- it was just as great as it was last weekend. I saved one glass for tonight and can't wait!

11/20/2019 7:24:00 PM - I forgot to say on Venge, age 5-7+ years or decant 3+ hours based on my Hunnicutt experience. This is NOT a Carter. I am thinking that the Trespass will be similar. Dan
