  11/22/2020 9:05:00 AM - Hi familydoc, thanks for the recommendation; I haven't tried the Esploso. Yes, I've enjoyed quite a few of the Andrew Hill recently. I think the best of the bunch I've tried from a quality/price standpoint was the '15 Ciel du Cheval; very bright acidity - interesting style - delicious. I may get more. K&L have it at $50.

I was getting it at club price south of $35 and remain convinced it's the best wine deal I've ever gotten. But in fairness it's like Andrew Will makes wine directly for my preferences.

[Cf. my TN of 12/14/19.] However, a tolerance of oak is probably also necessary... ;)

  1/7/2017 9:16:00 PM - Hi wineotim, The only real heavy-hitter Bordeaux from '10 that I opened recently was the Haut Bailly. I'm a big fan of this producer, but really it turned out to be more of an exercise in considering its future potential vs. enjoying any realized potential. Similarly, recent openings of Bon Pasteur, Dame de Montrose and Gazin showed that they needed more time. However, as we speak I'm sipping '10 Malartic Lagriviere and it's a beauty, and showing great :) Overall, I'll be trying to sit longer on my '10 Bordeaux, if I can.

  3/18/2016 4:14:00 PM - Hi Motz, I think I may have a particular fondness for Lafon Rochet, perhaps more than most, so my rating may be more personal vs. in line with others' opinions. I find it to be particularly classy, classic, authentic. I attended the '10 UGC tasting in San Francisco where I tasted about 70 bottles of '10 Bordeaux in a couple of hours. Strangely the Lafon Rochet stood out for me as my favorite red of the tasting, keeping in mind some general price consideration (it was the one that 'sang' for me the most). The more recent bottle I had a month or two ago just underscored for me how lovely this wine is. I went ahead and ordered four or five more. All I can say is that I really like it and am baffled why it's not rated higher. I think La Dame and Cantamerle are lovely too in this vintage. it may be splitting hairs or comes down to personal taste. I recommend trying the Lafon Rochet youself to see - It's quite dry at this point in its evolution but even after a little decanting it opens very nicely and shows a lovely approachability and sweetness.

  3/18/2016 4:05:00 PM - Hello John, I noticed you scored the 2010 Lafon Rochet a point higher than the same vintage La Dame Montrose and Cantemerle, both of which I thought were outstanding. Does the LR standout above the other two wines? Thanks.
