11/18/2021 2:00:00 PM - Seth-- re. the Barbeito O Japones. No longer available in U.S. I just ordered another bottle from DIOGOS Wine Shop. As they don't ship to U.S., I will have it shipped to E.U. address when there spring 2022. That's the only source I know of.

6/5/2020 11:34:00 AM - Regarding the Mullen, it was a bigger and riper wine but I thought the acidity and freshness at least initially did have some focus. I haven't had many other spatlese from Mullen, but I agree stylistically it was a bit different than usual.

5/20/2018 5:19:00 AM - Seth, Just saw your note from 2016! You are correct, that was not a Gran Bussia on the Aldo Conterno. I have since corrected my error - thanks!

  • Burgundy Al says:

7/31/2017 10:44:00 PM - Seth, Thanks for catching my mistake on the Groffier 1995 note. It actually was Amoureuses we drank, I just made a mistake in the note itself, now corrected.

  • Burgundy Al says:

7/29/2017 2:15:00 PM - Seth, There have been a series of gradual changes at Perrot-Minot over the past 15 years. Starting in the early 2000s, Christophe really managed down yields, increasing concentration. He also became increasingly meticulous through every step. Use of new oak also went up at the same point, and now it is down considerably from its peak in the mid 2000s.

5/22/2015 6:34:00 AM - Hi Seth, I'm not 100% sure of the timing for various things while in New York at the moment sorry. I'm there from the 6th and leaving on the evening of the 12th.

  • essconsults says:

4/6/2015 6:28:00 PM - Seth: Did you think the '67 Gillette was bad? I was at the table-I thought it was excellent (but I'm not a huge old Sauternes drinker)

  • Burgundy Al says:

1/11/2015 12:43:00 AM - Seth, I haven't had Leroy 91 Beaux Monts in many years but have multiple experiences with 90 and 93. Both are great wines with lots of similarities. Both classically Vosne with great spice. 93 more dense and powerful, 90 more ripe.

7/5/2014 1:45:00 AM - Hi Seth. Thanks for your note on the Schäfer Fröhlich Felseneck. Indeed a mind blowing riesling. Many of these 2011 and 2012 Nahe rieslings have impressed me a lot. Greets from Zurich.

7/4/2014 11:26:00 PM - Hi there to New York, nice to comment on my TN. Some of the best german GG producers seem to be highly recommended even in the new world. And there is a lot more to discover, especially at the Nahe! For me and my friends this little growing area is among the best in Germany and we go there every year! The Nahe is above all if you prefer the strong, tight, mineralic driven style of GG- Riesling. The best producers for us are S/F, Dönnhoff and Emrich- Schönleber. If possible for you at U.S. also try Schneider (best QPR), Dr. Crusius (very good midrange Riesling), Gut Hermannsberg( year after year more improving), Diel, Korrell, Hexamer and Joh.Bapt. Schäfer. A month from today our group will have our first vertical blind tasting of some of the best vineyards, 3 GG- producers from different growing areas with one single vineyard. Here to come on CT! Cheers from Hamburg!

3/28/2014 2:24:00 PM - Hi Seth, Thanks for your note. I borrowed the rating system from my dad but may abandon ratings altogether in the not-too-distant future. I'm on the Upper East Side. I don't have a wine group per se but am always open to meeting people with whom I can pop a few corks.

2/27/2014 4:22:00 PM - Patina was great. Wine trumped the food that night, but we happened to eat there during restaurant week so we took advantage of the prix fix menu. The wine service there was top notch, we were able to talk them into charging up $0 for corkage.

1/30/2014 2:30:00 PM - I am signed up for main event on friday and Donnhoff/Schaefer dinner on Sat. My wife is coming. Don't know if she will let us go to both but that is my intention. For the record she said go to both. Just don't want to "over-geek" her.

  • Charlie Carnes says:

1/30/2014 1:27:00 PM - Are you going to Rieslingfeier?

  • Krugman says:

11/21/2013 6:22:00 PM - Thanks for the comment on the 02 Comtes ;) I can't stay away! I have no will power ;) Honestly they are so good that I think you should pull one out this holiday season.

  • Krugman says:

8/22/2013 8:41:00 AM - Hi Seth, I saw your note about Agrapart Mineral. Unfortunately, I have never tried the Mineral, so I am not much help on that front. However, I have tried their entry level 7 cru champagne and thought it was a really good value at around $30 per bottle. I have also heard really good things about Agrapart in general, so I would not hesitate in giving the Mineral a try. But I would start off with just one bottle to make sure you like it.

  • Krugman says:

7/27/2013 8:12:00 AM - You are right, those Premier Cru prices you listed are great. In fact, I know the $99 price for the 2004 DP is almost $20 below the LVMH wholesale price for many of their best wholesale customers. In terms of the 2004 Vilmart Coeur, I think you will be very impressed when you try that one. It is very young, but is an astonishingly good champagne. Especially if you are a fan of the Vilmart style. If you are looking for a new under the radar champagne to try anytime soon, you should give the new 2008 Marc Hebrart Special Club a go. I have not had it yet, but I have had email exchanges with Peter Liem and Brad Baker who are claiming that the new Hebrart SC is phenomenal. It is in the $70 to $80 price range. I will be trying it as soon as I can.

  • Krugman says:

7/27/2013 6:05:00 AM - Hi Seth, I hope all is well. Thanks for the notes on the 04 Comtes and 02 Pol Roger. I noticed that you got the 02 Pol Roger and Pol Roger BdB in the $55 range. That is an incredible price. I am assuming that must have been through Premier Cru? Its funny, people talk a lot of trash about them on the messaging boards, but I have never gotten a bad bottle from them and they have always delivered.

2/26/2013 9:48:00 AM - I had the Karthauserhof at my house , in Western New York. I assume you had it at Rieslingfeier in NYC?

  • salil says:

12/2/2012 8:03:00 AM - Thanks for the kind words. Agreed, we should definitely get together over some Rieslings, or MC Scheurebes - I'm a huge fan of Hans-Gunter Schwarz's old wines. Just wish I had more bottles of the '98s in my cellar.

  • mattyboy_ says:

6/12/2012 9:27:00 AM - At times, it can be rather difficult to rate wines on a 100 pt scale with a certain consistency. I've gotten jaded for some time now using the generic [Parker] 100 pt rating system and I quite like yours a lot. I shall incorporate it in the future. Cheers, Matt from Seattle (and yea, who cares about the appearance of the wine if it tastes good??)
