  • 2022 Societa Agricola Siddura Vermentino di Gallura Maia

This is focused on tropical fruit flavours with pineapple standing out.One could think of passion fruit, mango and alikes, beautifully and tightly wrapped in a great concentration of juicy pleasure. A note of baking spices is somewhere underneath. Waxy in the mouth, well balanced, very intense, aromatic, complex. A beauty indeed.

  • 2021 Decugnano dei Barbi Orvieto Classico Frammento

This Orvieto classico seems to evolve through different characters. The start, as well as the nose, clearly shows mature peachy fruit and honey, then goes through a fresh, somewhat greenish phase (yes, there is sauvignon blanc in the blend) and finally leaves you with an orange flavoured aftertaste. I like this complexity of fruit, which is moreover nicely balanced.

  • 2020 Cantine Nicosia Etna Vulka Etna Rosso

This Etna nerello red, very recognisable as such, needs to be savoured with patience. While my first impression after opening was one of red fruity simplicity, I am rewarded with complexity and length after a couple of hours. Indeed, it has developed fruity flavours as different as ripe peach, zesty orange and succulent cherry. While at first it was merely tart, I am now met with aromatic, elegant acids with a soft, balsamic aspect. The dark earthy, smoky overtone was there from the beginning though. A hint of dried herbs and cloves like spices and fine, well integrated tannins complete the picture.
Funny to see, in CT as well as in professional reviews (Decanter and Parker vs Suckling, Jancis Robinson and Gambero Rosso), the split between good and very, very good. As if some reviewers weren't patient enough...
