  • 2010 R. López de Heredia Rioja Rosado Gran Reserva Viña Tondonia

    PNP

Attractive orange peach color. Melon, cured meats, and orange marmalade on the nose--tons of brine and some hay as well.

Bright acidic punch, but well balanced with tart berries and good body. Some tannins, especially on the aftertaste. Almost woodsy, like a leftover stem stuck in a berry. Medium dry with a good leathery aftertaste that is quintessential of this producer--every wine I've had of theirs, be it white, red, or rose, have all had that same meaty, mushroomy, leathery note mid-way through the finish.

This wine is not your ordinary rose. It is complex, well-aged, and has plenty more time to go. I've had some of this producer's white wines from the mid 80s that were just hitting their peak. If you're looking for something a little different and surprising, this is a winner. Certainly more for the predominantly red drinker than the white drinker, but worth the buy if you're looking for something unique.

  • 2003 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

Fully oxidized. Unfortunately had none of the character past tasters mentioned. If you have a bottle, drink it now--hooefullly yours faired better than mine!

  • 2005 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Combe des Fous

    PNP

Dark violet color with highlights of ruby. Cranberry cocktail aroma along with chocolate, wet bark, cherry cordial, and wet leaves. A little hot at first, but the alcohol dissipated quickly.

Plummy fruit with a nice acidic balance. The wet leaves and bark transfers over from the nose, but over time the wine reveals cured meat, garrigue, white pepper, and camp fire. Medium dry with a long finish.

This is a perfect fall wine that would be amazing with Thanksgiving dinner, or just sitting outside watching the leaves fall. I'm going to try to get a few more bottles, but I imagine there are only a few more years left before it peaks.

11/2/2020 12:43:00 PM - Hi Aberry, thanks a lot for your answer! We paid 175€ for a magnum of 2015 (quite a lot but they were sold out of magnums and we really ask for it so... we paid it). The regular size bottle was 70€. To be honest, I should have bought more, I really find this 2015 the best brunello tried during a 3 days trip in the zone. Take care!
