Palest straw colour, faint spritz in the glass (and on the tongue). Lush aroma of apple and mandarin, and a notable creamy sweetness. Bright, pure fruit flavour, especially pear, very similar profile to the nose, excellent poise between sweetness and acidity; fabulous concentration yet still light. Exactly what I want from this. The next day, still very good. [Screwcap; 8.5% abv; Cornelius Edinburgh, £17].

For old times' sake, and because I still respect this producer based on past experience. Rather pale. Mild and slightly lactic aroma. The taste is unexpectedly soft and sweet, though not unbalanced, with just faint zesty bitterness. Reminds me of Moutard's rosé which I used to get from this retailer around 15 years ago. Probably sitting in bottle on a shelf has mellowed it, and for the better. The next day, unchanged. [Cork + cage; 12% abv; Booths, £30].

A new vintage of an old favourite. Excessive foam on opening. Lemon colour. Bright, zesty aroma, quite creamy too; lime, mandarin, and coconut. Concentrated flavour, good juicy apple character; tangy and taut, the acidity is bright but controlled. Understandably youthful but not raw; still impressive, probably better with up to five more years' bottle age. The next day, just as good. [Cork + cage; 11.5% abv; Great Grog, £13.99].
