2011 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny

This was delightful. It opened right away, with forward, ripe and juicy dark plums, and the palate had the texture of plum flesh, bright acidity, quite long on the palate, juicy and vibrant. With air, the fleshy texture becomes more silky, the dark fruit now showing touches of red, cherries along with the plums. This is so balanced and pleasing. With more air, the tannins emerge, but the fruit is sweet and the palate is silky and the whole is really something. For a village wine from an off vintage, this is impressive and delicious. In the Berkshires.

2008 Bruno Paillard Champagne Assemblage Extra Brut

Second recent bottle from this purchase, and it's quite good. Very clean, clear palate, seems Blanc de Blancs from its clear palate, but there's a hint of Pinot Meunier that was especially strong in the wheat notes in the last bottle, not as strong in this bottle, although there's a note of almond this time. No sherry note like last time. The bead is very fine, almost an afterthought, although the palate is still young. This seems delicate. Lovely.

2016 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Barbera d'Alba Scudetto

Not a big fan. Drunk over three nights and I kept hoping that would improve, open more, or show a pretty side, but it did not. I much preferred the 2016 Giuseppe Mascarello Barbera d'Alba Superiore Santo Stefano di Perno, which was brighter, fresher and more enjoyable. This, in comparison, was dark, earthy, monochrome.
