Refined, balanced and remarkably complex. Juicy red cherry, plum, spring flowers, char, cooling mint, and spices. This is a fantastic Oregon pinot drinking perfectly right now. Interestingly, it shared many characteristics with the 2007 Bruno Rocca Barbaresco Maria Adelaide that followed it.

Fantastic wine entering a compelling drinking window. Well-structured, complex and long: nicely balanced between fruit (blackberry and current) and secondary characteristics of earth, funk, cured meats and smoke. It was decanted 1.5 hours, but improved throughout the night so decant longer. Will improve.
Drank with a 2006 Alban Seymour - fun contrast between top syrahs from two very different terroirs (and a counterpoint to those who argue California syrah can't age as the Alban seemed to be on the early side of maturity).

This is an awesome California syrah. Super intense with a layered dark fruit profile, velvety and rounded with a core of unmistakable syrah funk and perfectly integrated oak. What is amazing is that a wine this big showed no heat from alcohol. It also tasted as if it has another 5-10 years of prime drinking although I doubt it will become much more complex.
Decanted 1.5 - 2 hours. Made for a great comparison with the 2006 Chave Hermitage that was lighter in body, offered less intense fruit and lacked the velvet mouthfeel of the Seymour, but was a more complex wine with a longer finish. A clear contrast, but both are great wines.
