Very, very light pinot noir, even by English standards. Comparing to other 2020 English PNs this is by far the lightest of the bunch, comparable to a 2021 Davenport Diamond Fields (a terrible vintage), but without the sappiness that made me keep going back for more of that.
As the label says, it's a fairly oxidative style with notes of coffee and dark cherries, but a fairly noticeable funk which I'm not sure if it's from being made of pinot précoce or if it's just a bit of brettiness.
Ultimately not an unpleasant wine at all, but at £22.50, this is a bit of an expensive vin de soif and rather thin even for someone who likes English red wine.

Delicious moreish wine. Red fruits evolving into dark fruits, slight notes of cherry and frangipan. Even at 8 years old it has enough tannin to blacken my tongue and the structure to stand up to a ribeye. Fantastic acidity and lovely bouquet. Shame TWS has sold out so quickly, at only £26 it was a bargain.

I surprised my wife's visiting cousins from Paris by serving an English wine, a category they'd never even heard of before, with grapes from my homeland of Essex.
Nice bottle, not quite as moreish as the 2020 PN from the same setup that I tried last summer. Tasting notes were pretty much in line with the back of the bottle. I first detected mango, but we also got peaches, apples, brioche and lime.
All in all a positive experience at a fairly reasonable price, and good enough to surprise the Frenchies at the quality of what their neighbours to the north can do!
Served with M&S gastropub chicken, leek & smoked bacon pie and root vegetable Boulangere.
