  • 2002 Clos Roche Blanche Touraine Cuvée Cot

I didn't have high hopes as my previous (second to last) bottle of this was thin and not showing much of interest. However this one more than made up for it as it was singing and at absolute peak. I remember buying these at Chambers St. back when they were released and chatting with David at the time.

Beautiful pure cherry fruit, complex, harmonious, joyful and life affirming. Everything that I could possibly want from a wine and the epitome of what CRB was. Perfect way to welcome in the new year.

  • 2014 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard

Even more than the the Chaillot on ever level. More pure (not ripe) berry fruit, more minerality, more impressive on the nose. It started shutting down with air (decanting was a mistake) and while still very good showed less and less over the course of the evening. I guess either hold, drink immediately after opening, or decant for a day?

  • 1998 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur Chacé

All too often you buy a wine and store it for 15+ years only to have it be corked, or premoxed, or just a bit disappointing. But every so often you hit the jackpot.

Originally purchased in 2001 due to sfJoe lauding the beauty of aged white Clos Rougeard I always intended to open it when it was mature and he, Joe Dressner and Chris Coad were present. With all three having passed away while the wine aged I decided not to wait any longer and opened it with a group that I knew would enjoy and appreciate it. I'm told this was the last vintage of the Chace and their only white wine now is the Breze.

Really quite gorgeous, lush, complex, remarkably smooth texture married to minerally expansive flavors, full integrated oak. What are the fruits? Quince, strawberry, applesauce? Who cares, it was beautiful.

Brad would have hated it but he would have been wrong.
