  • 2016 Sadie Family Chenin Blanc Skurfberg

Sadie’s whites are a lot like making a good stew - it takes time, patience. Whilst many of the reds are quite available at a young age, the chenins are tight in the younger years. If you have a stoic gene though, you get a high reward.

Skurfberg is 100% Chenin - and this 2016 is in a nice place right now.
Grilled lemons, baked yellow apple, apricot, spice, roiboos, wax and lanolin on the nose. Oily texture and fresh acidity. Medium plus body. Lots of spicy and rich yellow stone fruit, with nuances of tea and orange peel bitter notes. As always with good Chenin a great marriage between richness, lifted acidity and nuance. Good length. Worth the wait!

  • 2016 Chanin Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard

On the verge of large, this one - but delicate still. Aromas of lilac, sweet raspberry, sweet cherry and blackberry. Some toffee and cola, mild baking spice, a touch of woodwork and vanilla.
Velvety mouthfeel, medium acidity, Excellent nuance and balance. Concentrated and long. I always feel that Chanin’s S&Bs - both red and white - are on the brink of being too oaky, but just pulls it off and leaves me sitting there with a smug smile..

  • 2017 Domaine de la Côte Pinot Noir Memorious

Domaine de la Côte Memorious 2017 is starting to show some development. But just some.
Blackberries, ripe strawberry, spice! (Think cardamum and cumin), some autumn leaves and wet soil on the nose. The slightest hint of toffee, that becomes just a tad bit more apparent on the palate, but never dominating.
Velvety mouthfeel, fresh acidity, medium body. Intense, conentrated, pure and ripe red and black berries. Mild spice. Slightly firm but delicate tannins. Long and nuanced finish.
