    4/23/2019 1:54:00 AM - Thanks for the comment on 98 Cheval Blanc- my family are not great believers in decanting, with our preference being to see how the wine is from its first splash into the glass until the end of the evening. That said, I think given the closed stated of the wine, I felt the wine only really started to reveal some of its greatness after about 2 hours. I don't think giving it much more time than that is helpful. The wine can certainly be enjoyed now but I am afraid we all need to be a little more patient with this wine! It will be a great Cheval Blanc given another 3-5 years!

    6/26/2018 10:16:00 PM - I would suggest you consider buying Burgundy at both Brentwood Wine and Winebid. I also suggest Corton as it is Grand Cru, reasonably priced and drinks great from years 7 to 28. Finally, drink every wine that you like and when you think it is ready.     3/17/2018 1:54:00 PM - Hi Rashcar. Hope you're well. You asked about my note (March 15) on the 1998 Chateau Haut Brion. I opened the bottle, decanted it and let the wine sit in the decanter. Then, it was re-bottled in the cleaned bottle before bringing to the restaurant. So it got (and needed) lots of air!

    1/11/2017 2:41:00 PM - Hi Robbie - thanks for messages on the Janasse. Not sure what the Burgundy options are in Atlanta, but here in London we have access to pretty much anything. I highly recommend Taupenot Merme as a producer, and I love lighter styles such as producers like Chandon des Brailles, although they need quite a bit of time although some of the 06 and 07s are drinking really well (especially their Ile de Vergelesses 1er cru)

    6/8/2016 8:01:00 AM - Robbie, That is a very broad question you ask! I think there is a lot of great Burgundy that is less than $250 per bottle. The challenge of course is that top Burgundy, like most great Old World wine, needs time to reach its peak. Several wines in the $100-150 range at release that are almost always great wine AND values include Lafarge Volnay Clos des Chênes, Jadot Gevrey Clos St Jacques, Méo-Camuzet Nuits St. Georges Boudots, amongst many others.

    5/9/2016 4:18:00 AM - I was asked for my drinking window guess for the 2006 Bryant. I'd think it will easily make it to 2030. I should note my experience with decades old Napa is limited. I've had experience with decades old Togni, Laurel Glen, Mondavi Reserve, Montelena,Dunn, Heitz, Peter Michael- and clearly Napas can go several decades. The talking point is about waiting in the first place. With few exceptions - Dunn and Togni in particular, Napa is built to drink young. Bordeaux is built as best it can be given the vintage, and so sometimes can be approached young, often not. When we think of the magic changes that occur in a bottle after three or more decades, it's almost always Bordeaux. Can a Napa- or Sonoma cab- do that? The oldest California wine I've had was a 20s plus Dunn and Togni, and both were into secondaries, and immensely rewarding. But they start out clearly not to be touched for a decade or more. Bryant is approachable younger. So how long can it go and should we wait? I will plan to live long enough to try and answer, and I do have some 15 year old Bryant tucked away, so will be patient and see. At the risk of going on and on, if I think of the wines I buy off allocation by the case, I've found Bond holds up for fifteen plus years, as does Les Pavots. Montelena for sure, Pahlmeyer variable altho I love it young. Araujo and Altagracia go long. At fifteen or twenty, they are into secondary and clearly have time. Is this useful? Hope so

    5/8/2016 6:28:00 PM - You asked about the 2006 Bryant and best window. Its awesome now. I recommend a 6-8 hour decant min or decant for 3 hours put back in the bottle overnight in the cooler. Open the next day 1-2 hours before you drink it. Its spectacular. Ive drank over a case of them. They are always a show stopper unless the bottle is flawed.
